“May we rent the cottage at the edge of the sea?" is a question we are asked hundreds of times every year. The answer is, "Yes”! Doves Cottage is the most sought-after holiday property enjoying a unique position and interesting history.
Once a 'tap house’ giving a warm welcome to sailors, it has steps from the door into the sea. Every window has a sea view and access to the cottage is via the Coastal Path. Doves Cottage is a most unusual and cosy retreat in a magical setting. Seals, peregrines and a wide variety of seabirds are often seen from the south facing terrace. Additional lawn gives lots of space.
The elderly or infirm may find the short, steep flight of steps difficult.
Not suitable for under 5 year olds.
Please Note: Cot and highchair are not provided, but you are more than welcome to bring your own. Please call 01437 765765 if you would like to hire them from Coastal Cottages.

The cottage is set in the village on a single track, tarmacked lane. It is a no through road. Park your car nose or tail into the bank, leaving room for others to park and turn. The owners are happy for you to carry your luggage through their terrace and garden when you arrive and depart. For access to Doves Cottage during your stay, please use the Coastal Path and follow the path to the right through the garden. There are eight steps and a handrail to descend to the entrance of the cottage. A Rayburn provides cooking facilities, central heating and hot water. Alternatively, a microwave with convection oven and grill, together with a dual plate hob, can be used for cooking. There are open-tread wooden stairs leading to the bedroom. TV and DVD have remote controls. Radio with bluetooth sound system Small back terrace overlooking the bay with integrated garden table and bench, parasol, and folding garden chairs. Steps lead from back terrace down to the sea/beach. Extensive lawn with slight incline. External lighting at the cottage. A torch is needed if arriving at or leaving Doves Cottage after dark. No telephone landline. Pets and guide dogs are welcome, but must be up to date with worming and flea treatments. A local bus service is available from a bus stop approximately 500m away in Abercastle.
A wonderful week in such a cosy cottage. We will be back soon! Thank you :)
We had an amazing week exploring this beautiful stretch of coastline. Wildlife abounds! We have seen so many different species and loved watching them all in the bay and surrounds.
Amazing place, a little gem. So relaxing, lovely walks. Beautiful cottage in the best position. We saw seals and lovely robins! Would love to come again!! Thank you
February 2023 - Fab location, all we hoped it would be!
February 2023 - Beautiful cottage in an amazing location. Amazingly lucky with the weather – but a gem of a place whatever time of year – we will back.
Often at seaside locations, we have looked at this cottage from the cliffs and thought I bet it’s nice to stay there! Well now we know it is nice! Doves Cottage is in a marvellous location. We have really enjoyed our week here. Thank you.
Very relaxing week, walked loads on coastal paths and loved watching life in the bay. Super cottage, would love to return. Dyffryn Fernant Garden is well worth a visit a real jewel.
Many thanks to the 'Miles' family for the use of Doves Cottage on our 13th visit here. We loved the whole holiday as much as ever visiting and re-visiting our favourite places. Lots and lots of walking. See you again!! Been magical as ever
Our third visit to Doves Cottage and it will not be our last! Thank you, we just love coming here. One of our favourite places in the world!
The second but hopefully not the last visit to this special cottage and location. Our trip was delayed by two days due to travel problems caused by 'The Beast from the East' storm which hit Britain. Luckily, the weather here since Monday has been amazing with sunshine and blue skies most of the time. Fabulous scenery and walks. What a tonic as winter nears an end
We've enjoyed the most wonderful 4 days at Doves Cottage. We've enjoyed sunshine and snow and have been lucky enough to sit outside and enjoy the views! What a way to spend your birthday! Peaceful, cosy and a great time had by all (including the pooch!) Thank you for your warm welcome. We hope to return again soon!
Loved another week of peace and quiet in Doves Cottage, and enjoying an early Christmas too! Thank you, see you next time.
I agree with earlier comments that the rayburn is a joy to use. I have absolutely loved the time I have spent here at Doves Cottage. It's such a lovely place and I wish I could stay longer. I have had a wonderful and relaxing stay here and I knew from the minute I arrived here that I would return to this special place. I feel very privileged to have had the chance to stay in this incredible location and I can't wait to come back.
We have returned again to this specail place. Had a lovely week - enjoying watching gulls bathing when the tide was out, and being cosy when the wind and the waves were raging.
Barney our border terrier loved having his very own "private" beach to run around on. This was our second visit and we have not been disappointed.
A wonderful and relaxing week. Many thanks
We have had a wonderful time. Thank you. So beautiful and relaxing. Top highlight, two seals trying to get food out of the fishermans traps!!
What a beautiful place and a magical week. Loved every minute of it and can't wait to come back.
What can be said that's not already been said? Thanks for an unforgettable holiday.
The word "stunning" is much over used these days - but it does apply here. Watch out for the seals here and the basking sharks at Strumble Head.
